Beach Tasting: Lindemans Cuvee Rene Gueuze

by jvetter 25. May 2009 20:01

Aroma:

Cool but mild sour aroma. Very pleasant.

Appearance:

Pours a dark gold color with quickly dissolving head. Pouring down the side produces little head but down the center produces the head that disappears quickly. A small amount of carbonation rises from the beer but no head remains on the surface except for the edge of the glass.

Flavor:

Begins with slight sour and quickly changes to moderate well balanced sour. The sour lingers briefly but then dissipates after 15-30 seconds.

Mouthfeel:

Very light mouth feel but this suites the styles very well.

Overall Impression:

This is an excellent gueze for those who cannot handle the extreme acidity and sourness of a Cantillion. The sour in this beer is mild, but is still very enjoyable. If this beer has a down side it would be lack of complexity. For a gueze made from 1, 2, and 3 year lambic I would expect a bit more complexity. I wonder i maybe they do some of the fermentation and/or aging in stainless steel because there doesn’t seem to be much oak flavor. Overall I would give this a B/B+.
