Beach Tasting: 2009 Allagash Confluence Ale

by jvetter 25. May 2009 17:55

Aroma:

Little to no aroma, but does have mild Belgian hint to it. Little or no hint of Brett

Appearance:

Medium to light straw in color with small soapy head. The head retains its shape for a minute after the initial pour or until you start drinking it. A continuous stream of carbonation ensures a layer of foam remains.

Flavor:

Initially tastes like a light Belgian pale but quickly continues with a mild brett flavor that lingers but does not overpower. Very nice flavor that continues to please as the drink warms.

Mouthfeel:

Very light feel with appropriate amount of body for a light Belgian ale.

Overall Impression:

Very well balanced Brett beer. Has both the Belgian and Brett flavors appropriately expressed but neither is too strong. I would give this beer a A-/A for its style though its tough to justify the $25 PP price tag when the two Ommegang brett beers can be had for under $10.
