4th Brew - Belgian Triple IPA - March 10 2007

by jvetter 1. March 2007 19:27

We will be brewing again on Saturday March 10th (9am-5pm). This time it’s going to be a Belgian style triple/barleywine, but super hopped like an American IPA. In fact I will be hopping it in four different ways (Mash Hopped, First Wort Hopped, Boil Hopped, and Dry hopped). Bad weather dates will be Sunday the 11th, or the following weekend. I will keep you updated.

The last brew (Duvel clone), has had a few snags. Fermentation slowed due to what we believe to be too many un-fermentable sugars (dextrins and starches). I was able to get it started again with beano of all things because the protein contained helps breakdown the un-fermentables for the yeast. It’s still fermenting now, but I anticipate we will be putting it into cold conditioning within the next week or two.

As usual, check my website for updates. I continually update it with brew status and have recently added brew system construction links. The plan is to provide additional description and pictures of changes to the system over time.

FYI – The beer supplies are slightly low. The witbier is still on tap but very little is left. I have bottles of Yuengling, Skull Splitter, Celebrator, Wild Goose Amber, Stegmaier octoberfest, Sam Adams Boston lager, and a few other random things in the fridge. If there is something else you would like to drink please feel free to bring it. Homebrew is always welcome J.
